Truths, Half Truths and Lies - Just Kidding
Matthew D'ancona leads a discussion dedicated to the truth, or lack of it.
Date: Wednesday 7 March
Location: Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London. N7 6PA
Lying has always been a part of human communication. But have we stopped caring about truth and started to value emotional resonance more than hard evidence? How is our sense of trust affected by this?. Just as a nation no longer trusts its politicians, a child who is lied to grows up with a general mistrust of the world and the adults who inhabit it. The child also mistrusts the information provided by his or her own senses. These say one thing while parents or other adults say another.
The Caspari Foundation are delighted to be joined by Guardian journalist Matthew d’Ancona whose latest book Post-Truth: The New War on Truth and How to Fight Back considers how the art of the lie is shaking the foundations of democracy and the world as we know it. He will speak about this and what the truth means to him. This will be followed by a discussion concerning the impact on a young person's emotional wellbeing and ability to learn, when truth has been withheld or distorted.
Tickets are £30 per person and available on Eventbrite. Please search Caspari on www.eventbrite.co.uk. Book soon to avoid disappointment!
